What is sugar paper?: No, it's not made from sugar and it is not edible (although it is non toxic so it won't hurt your child if they do nibble on it!) This type of paper was traditionally used to wrap blocks, or more correctly loaves, of sugar as they were transported from the West Indies in Victorian times. Sugar paper has a rough, absorbent surface making it ideal for children's paintings. Most sugar paper has a high recycled pulp content. The colour, whilst bright, may run when wet and will fade quickly in direct sunlight.
