  • Pipe cleaners (or usually more correctly chenille stems) come in two standard lengths.  150mm and 300mm (6 " or 12"). 
  • The traditional style pipecleaners are usually 150mm long and have a "cotton towelling" appearance.  Obviously these were originally designed for cleaning pipes but people soon realised their potential as a craft object. 
  • Chenille stems were then developed solely for craft purposes.  They usually have a synthetic soft fluffy surface and bright colours.  They come in a variety of lengths and thicknesses (widths).  Tinsel craft stems are also available
